Marriage ceremonies in Benue state (Tiv) are always interesting and exciting. After the groom and bride have agreed to get married, the groom visits the bride's family going with his family members to make his intention known and also the introduction date. On the day of introduction, the groom and his family come with bottles of drink, a bag of salt, and even meat depending on what the bride's family ask for.

After the bride's family receives the item, the family of both couples splits into different rooms, one for the male and the other for the female.
This is done to determine a day for the wedding and the traditional marriage requirements. However, the day is determined in the male room where the bride and groom's father with other elders are present. Once a day is fixed, the bride's price list would be presented to the groom.
